Why Samba Drumming?
Empowering people through music
A number of studies have demonstrated the positive impact music can have on personal and social development, including increased self reliance, confidence, self-esteem, sense of achievement and ability to relate to others. Being part of a music group is proven to enhance mental health & wellbeing, help to combat loneliness & isolation, build friendships and develop skills.
A samba band has a variety of instruments which need to be played together to create the 'groove'. It's really important for everyone to play as a collective and be part of the team!
In a typical workshop participants will:
-
Learn some simple 'building blocks' to create sustainable rhythms including 'call and response'
-
Listen to instructors, listen to each other, co-operate and communicate with musical patterns
-
Have fun as a team and interact with everyone

We use specialised training drums and accessible instruments which are less noisy than the traditional samba instruments. These reduce the impact for noise sensitive individuals. Ear defenders are also offered in each session to all who may want to use them.
All of our grooves are created using words, images and hand signals, therefore they are very accessible and easy to learn, as well as remember. Members are encouraged to contribute to the creation of our music.
Our group sessions are a lot of fun and offer a unique empowering moment for every individual involved! As well as drumming, we focus on well-being, friendship, support and a sense of belonging.
